What is Kizomba?
A sensual partner dance from Angola β full of feeling, connection and rhythm.
What is Kizomba?
Kizomba is a sensual partner dance from Angola, which emerged in the 1980s under the influence of Semba and Zouk. The dance is known for its slow, flowing movements and the intense contact between dancers.
How does Kizomba feel?
You dance Kizomba in close contact with your partner. The music is slow and melodious, the movements are soft but precise. Many people describe it as "walking to music" β but in a very sensual way. It is a dance that you feel, not just perform.
Is Kizomba difficult to learn?
Kizomba looks simple, but it is not. The technique β the correct body weight, the connection with your partner, the musical feel β takes time and practice. But that is precisely why it is so rewarding when it starts to click.
Kizomba today β more than one style
Kizomba came from Angola to the west and is now popular worldwide. Along the way, various subgenres have emerged, each with their own character:
Urban Kiz β more playful, with larger movements and more distance between dancers
Tarraxo β extremely slow, minimalist, focused on body movement
Douceur β soft and flowing, French style
Konpa β Haitian influences, slightly faster rhythm
At Bailando Latino, you learn traditional Kizomba as a foundation, with diverse Urban Kiz elements in the following levels.
