The 6 basic turning patterns of Salsa

Do you also have trouble keeping track of all the different Salsa figures? To you, is each new Salsa figure a separate figure in its own right that you just have to remember? Comfort yourself, that’s true for most of us! After all, almost all dance schools teach mainly figures, where you don’t really have any idea what you are doing… But did you know that in Salsa there are 6 basic turning patterns that are constantly recurring? By this we mean that each so-called figure always consists of 80% of a combination of 1 or more of these 6 basic turning patterns. The consequence of this is that if you know, know and can recognize these turning patterns, with every new figure you have to learn you already know 80% of the figure. So you will be able to learn and eventually memorize the new figure much faster…

What are these 6 basic turning patterns?

  1. Right turn
  2. Left turn
  3. Cross body with inside turn
  4. Cross body with outside turn
  5. Reversed cross body with outside turn
  6. Enchufa

Have no idea what we mean by this? 🙂
